WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Armistice : When two sides of a war need a break from killing each other, they agree to an armistice, a temporary battle timeout. An armistice isn’t permanent, but it’s usually a sign that both sides want to give peace a chance.

This is Mr. HCB’s Uncle Ernest, born in February 1919 and who fought in World War II.  He was killed on 10th July 1944.

Just before he left, he got married and after finding his widow, Aunty Chris, through doing some Family History research in 2011, we are still in touch her - she is now 95 years old.  She told us when we met up with her that she had kept this photograph of Ernie in her purse ever since they were first married and that the time they were together were “the happiest days of my life.”

Let us pray on this Armistice Day that all wars will cease and all those involved will “give peace a chance” forever.

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
