Happy 5th Birthday
Cant believe Breagh is already 5!! Breagh is gaelic for beautiful. She is a very special dog to me, don't get me wrong I love all my dogs but Breagh has a special place in my heart. When I first saw her as a very small pup I wasn't thinking of getting another dog yet. I actually as husband and I passed the litter in the porch at the farm where we had been gathering commented on the pup with the black spot on its forehead! I then didn't see the litter again but was starting to think about needing another dog. I said to the owners I would like one and they phoned back to say I was first in line so could get the pick of the litter, there were 7 bitches to choose from. I walked into the room with them and almost instantly picked breagh out, I chose with my heart I think! Anyway she was from a litter of 9 and unlike Emmy Hazylands pups she had not been socialised or introduced to anything and the dog had weaned them very early on. She was 6 weeks old when I went to choose her the farmer wanted me to take her there and then. That was a bit of a surprise but decided she would get much more from leaving and being with our pack. This was boxing day!!! Home she came and quickly became my shadow! Her lack of introduction to the world at crucial points has affected her a little and getting her so young means she is very attached to me as I became her mother, guide and mentor.
She has had to learn to accept that I leave her and to allow other dogs and people come near me without getting up tight. Both of us have learnt so much together. The minute I put her to sheep work her attitude problem became so much less of a problem. She was very naturally talented at sheep work and came on very quickly. She is now my main dog even though she is not my oldest working dog. She is my go to dog who can deal with many different problems no bother.
Today I used her to go check the tupping sheep as she loves to work so its a nice "present" for her! Its a bit like the calm before the storm today with sunshine in the morning which was just lovely!
