It's not the cough that carries you off...
...it's the coffin they carry you off in.
Following a tip-off from my Dad today I nipped over to All Hallows church in Woolbeding to have a look at this Anglo Saxon sarcophagus that has just been uncovered there.
The church is Saxon in origin and it is thought that when the bell tower was added in 1728 the sarcophagus was found and then dumped in its current position in a corner of the churchyard where it gradually became buried by layers of garden waste and was consequently forgotten.
Thankfully our modern day planning system is more enlightened about the treatment of archaeological remains!
