The Work House Chapel

Another visit to Tunbridge Wells Hospital today to treat an ear infection.  I have blipped this brand new hospital before.  This church was next to one of the car parks. How come it was there?  I wondered.
The new hospital stands on the site of an old hospital which used to be a work house.  This chapel was built for the work house in 1863. You can see two doors  - one for the male paupers and one for the female paupers.    Inside it is apparently a  particulary elaborate example of a, now rare still standing,  purpose built work house chapel.  I am very disappointed to find it is only open on National Heritage Open Days, so difficult to visit and it would be a perfect place for friends and relatives to pray for the sick in the Hospital.
