Battening down ...
I watched in some awe today as these builders across the road battled with the rising wind to erect the walls of the second storey of the new housing being crammed into the site of the former St Cuthbert's Church. I always marvel at how new buildings seem to begin with shoving up a wooden wall, and feared that this one would go flying into the house next door before they finished propping it up with these supporting buttresses. That, and the fact that the interior floors sit for ages covered in puddles, always makes me wonder what our Victorian house would be like at a similar stage in its building at the end of the 19th century.
The wind has dropped for now, so perhaps the new walls will be safe till morning ...
