Mystery bush
We had my aunt over for lunch today. She's 81 and when she gave up her allotment last year, she gave me a lot of her plants, which are now in full bloom. This bush grows outside our kitchen window and we have never been able to identify it. Even my aunt didn't know what it was. We love it, though, particularly when it flowers. It has a very subtle scent. Madame Le Beakstier (our resident blackbird) also loves it as she can pull strips of bark from its branches which she then uses in her nests!
Update - I've found it! It's Olearia Macrodonta, variously commonly known as Sea Holly, New Zealand Holly or Daisy Bush. Not what I expected at all, but at least now I can see how I should prune it, as that's always been a bit of a guess and it's become quite top heavy over time!
