the rose fence
Along this fence are growing 'Rambling Rector' and deep pink rosa 'Excelsa', just out of sight around the corner is 'New Dawn'. They have been there so long all the horizontals of the fence have rotted away and the roses now hold each other up.
On the other side of the fence is the food garden, where I worked for much of today bathed in the loveliest fragrance and showered with petal confetti.
It seemed a bit of a miracle to be outside at all today after the wild storms and the deluge of last night. The loudness of the rainfall kept us awake. Nearby towns and parts of Cork city have been badly flooded, and the power is still out in many places.
There was a window of steamy sunshine for a little while this afternoon, but now the rain is back.
