Any Way the Wind Blows
Since the nights have been fair drawing in, and it take me all of my time in the morning to get myself from my bed to my work, I decided on a project. An A-Z of my town -to get me back on track and thinking about what to blip.
Ayr Street.
So called because it heads to Ayr, the County town of our little Shire of Ayr.
The Locals like to think it's called Air Street because of the wind that regularly blows the locals from one doorway to another.
Last week, I spoke about Nugent's the Newsagents - they lived where the Cutting Crew Lives now - just behind the woman doing yoga in the photo.
Easy Living used to be a Boutique called Libby Ann's. So named for the owner whom my mam used to work for. She also owned the restaurant I washed dishes in, a travel agent along the road a bit, and other bits and bobs in between.
I am standing in front of the Parish Church, and on a Summer's Day when there is a wedding taking place - you will find a hive of activity on this part of the street. Passers-by stop in front of these shops and wait to comment on the wedding attire as the party arrives . The shop keepers and all employees can also be found peering through the windows - Weddings in the Parish church do draw a crowd. :-)
The "Deli" is a lovely little schmorgasbord of delights. I try and stay away from it, because I always end up buying something. In a previous incarnation it used to be "Valances" a chocolatier, before there was such a thing. I adored visiting - Sugar mice, shaped chocolate, chocolate far too fancy for me to even contemplate. My Aunty Worked in there, and it was always nice to pop in and say hello - for the chance of a free chocolate button :-)
There are a lot of little independent retailers in Troon - on this street alone - Whisky Specialist, Doggy Boutique, Herbary, Make Up Lounge, RNLI shop and on the opposite side, just out of view, the rather lovely Cardhu, far too lovely a shop even to enter in for a bimble - you ALWAYS come out with some interior addition.
I do love my wee town. I wish it was more used.
