Blipping the Velvet!

Another Friday, another Homotopia event at the Unity Theatre! My book club compadres were out in force to see and hear the very lovely Sarah Waters in conversation. Principally about her most recent novel, 'The Paying Guests', but also touching on previous, award-winning, best-sellers including 'Tipping the Velvet', 'Fingersmith', 'The Night Watch' and 'The Little Stranger'.

She also took questions from the audience and I think everyone was in agreement that they could've listened to her all night. I found it fascinating to get some insights into the way her novels gestate, her research processes, her writing habits, her feelings about being described as a 'lesbian author' (she doesn't mind!), what it feels like to have a novel adapted for stage and screen and her love of 'Downton Abbey' (well, each to their own!). She was also game enough to strike a pose for me. Thanks, Sarah!

It's really good to see the Blip site up and running again after today's rather alarming disappearing act. I'm reminded once again how much this place, and my fellow Blippers, mean to me.

But the Blip problems are put into context by the shocking events in Paris tonight. My thoughts are with the people of that great city and with all affected by terror, everywhere.
