A crafty day
The Hexham Embroiderers' Guild, of which Mum is an active member, had its annual exhibition in the Torch Centre today. We were there from the start at 11am, although Mum agreed she did not need to go earlier to help set up the exhibition.
It was truly wonderful. There was such a wide variety of embroidery and textile work on display. It took ages to go around and take it all in. Mum had invited various friends to come along. You see her with 2 of them, deep in discussion about a piece of work.
I left at lunch time and walked to the other end of town to see the Spinners, Weavers and Knitters in Trinity Methodist Church Hall. There were so many tempting yarns and completed items for sale, but I restrained myself!
I met friends and acquaintances at both events and had a very useful networking chat with one of the B & B providers.
After lunch, Liz and I went to a play called "England's Finest Women" which was part of the WW1 commemorations events on in Hexham at the moment. We saw 3 ambulance drivers in the trench where they slept in between driving the vehicles to pick up horribly wounded soldiers. We followed their struggle to come to terms with what was happening. They met a few years after the war and so we heard how they had/were adjusting to a very different life. It was fascinating and we were glad we went.
