In Memoriam

Oh death, where is thy victory?  Today's heroes
have passed away, if that is what they are,
but had they been asked, they would have simply
been father, sister, neighbour, son, the one
who checked his phone before the music began.

Someone responded to something I shared on FB today, and my reaction, in turn, was:  'It seems to be the fact that if we will not go to war, war will come to us.  Fearful times, but also a time for courage.  And do you know what the most courageous act is?  TO GO ON LIVING.  And that is exactly what we must do.  It is the supreme act of defiance.'
