Skylark On The Slimbridge Dumbles
Originally I was going to be on Ramsey Island in Pembrokeshire today, but the Irish Sea is like a roller coaster and nothing is sailing to and from the mainland ... so that was a no go!
So not to waste the day I went to Slimbridge with BarmanBlips, he hasn't been there for a decade ... I've not been there for months!
It wasn't that good day for birding to be honest, it was very quiet there. I love the contrast at Slimbridge at Mid Summer to Mid Winter, not a Pintail or migratory swan in sight!
We were sat in the Holden Hide when a WWT volunteer came in and asked if we would like to come out on a guided walk on the Dumbles to look at the various grasses that grow on the salt marsh. It was a fascinating hour or so walking out to the River Severn river banks. Along the way we kept flushing Skylarks that were hidden in the long grasses. That was a photo opportunity not to miss!
Shattered now, but another cracking day with some cracking company!
