Sunday

Our friends Liz and Genny came for lunch today.  Liz came bearing gifts including these jars of quince jelly (the one at the back is apple chutney) and a plate of poached quince with a blue cheese dip.

These were made from the quince fruit we took up to Derby the last time we visited them.

We prepared a lunch of butternut squash and chickpea casserole with a fennel herb crust served with roast sweet potatoes, with coriander and parsley, and roast parsnips with melted parmesan.  For pudding Ann made an apple sponge.  This was washed down with a very acceptable bottle of Merlot. We were going to have the poached quince as our third course but were too stuffed.

The afternoon was spent putting the world to rights, not an easy task following the awful atrocities in Paris.
