Buildings of Edinburgh 3 - Ramsay Garden

A two our fight this morning with two strong Quince plants which need to be moved (so I'm told). One was beaten into submission and the battle will recommence another day soon. I was covered in mud. I went off to lunch with an old friend (after deep cleansing). Then a short walk in the afternoon sunshine till the cold forced me into a bus.

Ramsay Garden is a block of sixteen private apartment buildings in the Castlehill area of Edinburgh, Scotland. They are photogenic and stand out for their red ashlar and white harled exteriors, and for their prominent position, most visible from Princes Street. It was built in the 1700s and fell into bad repair as did much of the Old Town of Edinburgh. Patrick Geddes, a botanist and urban planner took up the challenge of the improvement of large parts of the old town.

Developed into its current form between 1890 and 1893 Ramsay Garden is a series of fairly exclusive flats (Scots don't have apartments!
