Mono Monday - Another Brick In The Wall
" .... We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone ..."
This is the Apprentice House at Quarry Bank Mill. From 1790 to 1830, a third of the Mill workforce were pauper and orphan children between the ages of 9 and 18. Their working day was from 6am to 7pm and 3 nights a week they were educated in basic writing and maths.
Despite the hard conditions, the Mill was considered one of the better employers at the time because it did provide education to the children and administered punishment by docking their wages rather than beating them!
