Tiny Tuesday - Egg

While crossing the grass to put the washing out, I spotted this tiny egg lying in the middle of the lawn. It is in pristine condition, looks newly laid and is some distance from any trees. How on earth did it get there? Fragile and only 2.5 cm long, if a predator had dropped it, surely it would have broken? Did some poor bird have the equivalent of giving birth in the car and got caught out while racing to the nest?
