~Red Rock Canyon, California~
~Mudstone Badlands~
This gorgeous geologic structure is just a fraction of Red Rock Canyon. It is located at the boundaries of the Southern most foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the northern fringes of the Mojave Desert. An area of great beauty between two eco-systems as opposite as as you can imagine. The Sierra Nevada's pine forests, abundant wildlife and raging rivers, verses the Mojave's dry lakes, struggling wildlife, and sparse vegetation.
These red canyons are a photographers dream. A painters palette of reds, yellows, orange, browns, and sky blues, mixed and matched to your imaginations delight. With shapes to delight the most demanding of sculptors, squares, circles, boxes, cylinders and other shapes without names. A surveyor would go mad here, crooked horizons, untrue verticals, parallels not parallel and converging lines that do not meet.
I could spend a long time here, making images and finding the not easily seen delicacy and grace in this land between lands.
