Martindale Hall

I have some good memories of this place - we had our wedding reception here and it was a wonderful night. This mansion was built in 1879 for a 21 year old bachelor, Edmund Bowman Jr. Apparently most of the tradesmen were brought out from England for the job and sent back after completion. Plenty of money in the family at that stage and it was the good life. Lots of entertaining, fox-hunting, a private training track and cricket ground. But by 1892 the family was in debt and had to sell up. The building is now owned by the state government.
