Cabbages!
So it is: my last day working on the farm. My last Friday harvest. It was a really engaging and fulfilling morning for me; I was able to harvest and process summer squash, beets, cabbages, lettuce, and scallions. It rained and rained the whole harvest--someone joked that the farm was crying over my impending departure. It has been an amazing experience living and working here. I've learned so much about growing food and working cooperatively with others and about myself. This is one of the most valuable experiences I've ever had; I feel very grateful.
I think a plant portrait is appropriate today. These are 3 of 4 varieties of cabbage growing on the farm: caraflex (aka conehead), savoy, and red.
