Sub Sea Sub
I was out of the office this afternoon and down the coast of our river, as I was doing what I had to do I saw some familiar activity on the water, as I finished up and headed to the car, sure enough my hunch was right.
Quietly and pretty much unseen one of the UK's Trident nuclear submarines slipped upriver heading to her base at Faslane. The men who serve call these vessels the the blag pigs, hence the expression taking the black pig to sea. My friend's fiance is a doctor with the Royal Navy and has served aboard these vessels, the solitude and isolation he describes cannot be imagined.
Whatever your politics I for one find them a comforting sight, a deterrent a symbol, and a necessity
