What am I?

On my way to work I saw a kingfisher fly down the river - well I actually saw bit of metallic blue whiz from one tree to another... A generally productive day at work. After work there was a committee meeting in the pub (I can't drink so it's not so exciting for me) but the meeting went well.

Today's late night back blip is a close up of a piece of old technology, some younger blippers may have no idea what it is! Can those of a mature vintage identify it?
