I made it along to the launch of the online exhibition Lost+Found in Edinburgh, which features images of the city’s everyday and abandoned places, at the National Museum of Scotland this evening.
As part of the launch there was a panel discussion. The panel members selected some of the pictures from the exhibition for brief analysis with reference to the broad theme of inhabiting Edinburgh. Their comments led into a broader debate to which the audience members contributed. We discussed a range of topics including, for example: the status of urban space in a tourist city; the less-recognised 'ordinariness' of much of suburban Edinburgh; representations and conceptions of heritage; the relationship between art, culture and space; the commercialisation of public space; and professional and citizen roles in decisions related to urban development. I very much enjoyed the discussion, not least because it touched on many of the issues that I ponder on my walks across the city to and from work.
There were quite a few blippers at the launch, including ArcLight who served on the panel, and magi, who has written a short review of the event in his blip for today.
My blip is of a blipper blipping.
Exercise today: walked to and from work (16,593 steps).
