Sir John Murray
this 2004 vessel surveys and monitors the marine environment around the very long coastline of Scotland for the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)
Sir John Murray 1841-1914 was born in Canada and educated in Scotland
He is said to be the 'father' of modern oceanography. He was an oceanographer, marine biologist and limnologist (study of inland waters including rivers lakes and wetlands) He went on many expeditions across the oceans and founded a marine biology station on the Forth which in 1894 moved to Millport, Isle of Cumbrae a facility still in existence today
