Well I never!

As I was heading to my local patch - very late in the day - I noticed a short eared owl hunting in rough pasture that I'd always thought looked like good owl country, but had never seen one there.

I got a few in-flight shots - but it really was too late and too dark to get an adequate shutter speed for the job (but I've put one of the less bad ones in extra photos)

As I started to drive home I saw it on this fence post.  A passing local stopped to check I wasn't up to no good (!) and we had a good long chat. Apparently the owl is there every day and has been for a very long time!

I'll try to get him in better light another time.
