MoMA Panorama--Picasso Central
We went to New York's Museum of Modern Art today, to visit an exhibition that I've been anticipating for many weeks: Picasso Sculpture, a comprehensive display of that great artist's work in three dimensions. We were not disappointed: well over 100 works in eleven galleries on the entire fourth floor. The works are well spaced, and (fortunately) there were not too many visitors. Otherwise one sees at most a few of Picasso's sculptures at a time, and many were unfamiliar to me. A large number of them are from the Picasso Museum in Paris, but even there not many appear at a time. In some ways his sculptures are even more varied than his paintings, drawings or prints. Seeing them together was a wonderful experience.
This is a view of MoMA's lobby (just part of it!), with Picasso in the center on the wall, with a wood sculpture of a bull (1958).
Tonight we meet Laura and Eric for dinner at a Greek restaurant near our apartment on the upper West Side.
