Dawn at the Mottee Stone
The Mottee Stone probably derives its name from the French word 'Moitie', meaning half lying as it does halfway between Wexford and Dublin. Legend suggests that Fionn MacCumhaill, himself a legendary figure in Irish Mythology hurled the stone from the top of Lugnaquilla Mountain. However, geologists would suggest that it is one of many erratic boulders that were carried in the great ice flows of the ice age and then deposited as the ice melted. To give you an idea of its size I would say it's almost four metres in height. The temperature this morning was 2.5C but up there on the hill the wind was blowing hard and I got so cold that eventually I had to give up and go home when I could no longer feel the buttons on the camera.
