biodiversity

Hey, Mr Farmer

...put away that DDT now, give me spots on my apples but give me the birds and the bees
Joni Mitchell sang this in 1970, and organic food is maybe finally becoming more popular: there are two organic supermarkets like this one in my town of 8,000 people, and extensive ranges in the supermarkets. It's one reason we're in town: to shop like this without using the car. I'm not trying to boast of a super-ecolo lifestyle, I suppose I'm like the blip average.
But I realise one should be aware in places like this: the kiwi fruit in the display come from Italy, while they grow easily right here. If you want a mango, they come from Ecuador. Bio shops should label their food miles.  Later this week I hope to look at short circuits and agroecology, the new thing in France.
Thanks for your comments - I may not have time to reply to very many, but it's good to be in touch with you again.
