This morning my daughter Emma and I took a trip to Murwillumbah, primarily to visit a jewellery shop offering a discount of 75% on all stock for the day, their last day of trading before closing the store down.
Emma didn't find what she had gone to the jewellery store to look for, however we decided to make the most of the visit and called in to a very large second hand store just outside of the main town.
The elderly gentleman owner of the store, (sporting a suit, which probably dated back to the time of his birth) constantly made a point of telling us to keep our bags in check, as if they accidentally brushed past anything which as a consequence was broken, we would have to pay for it.
Emma inquired as to the price of a couple of items, none of which she purchased, as the gentleman had a highly elevated idea of the value of his second hand goods.
I quite fancied this old Singer treadle sewing table myself, which again was extremely overpriced, especially considering that the wood in the drawers was in shocking condition and the table top had obviously been sanded back and repainted at some stage in its lifetime.
This corner of the store was rather interesting, I thought, with the old books, binoculars, and a pile of large trunks stacked in the corner, surrounding the sewing table, which the elderly gentleman is still in possession of!
