There's always one....

.... who can't keep up, who lags behind.

And there's always one who waits with encouraging words.

A very quick trip out for a blip today - shocking weather; strong hot northerly blowing, and some really bad bush fires.  Not in our area thank goodness, but from what we hear, the Barossa is really copping it.  I think a lot of vines have been lost already, and a lot of the small towns are seriously under threat.

On a positive note, we hear that Bindi Irwin has won USA's Dancing with the Stars.  What a wonderful young woman she is.  I shall watch the YouTube clip with great interest.

The bird is a masked lapwing (Vanellus miles), also known as the masked plover and often called the spur-winged plover or just plover in its native range, is a large, common and conspicuous bird native to Australia, particularly the northern and eastern parts of the continent, New Zealand and New Guinea. It spends most of its time on the ground searching for food such as insects and worms and has several distinctive calls. There are two subspecies; the southern novaehollandiae (in my picture) has distinctive black markings on the shoulder and side of the chest, and is sometimes recognized as a separate species, the black-shouldered lapwing (Vanellus novaehollandiae).
