Holt Christmas Lights Switch On
The day began as they always do. I did all the jobs necessary and got to work by 8.30. I didn't read on the bus, I just looked at my lists. Still a lot to do. I think I'm list obsessed, but it doesn't make me any more organised/tidier/satisfied. Perhaps I should give them up for a little while and see if I can manage...a sort of list-fast.
Work was busy. Similar to yesterday. Last night I dreamt I was going to do transfers in Matthews team, but as I hadn't done a transfer since 1988 I was given a blue cardboard folder with old letters to answer, rather than any calculations. I had a weird dream yesterday too, where I took in 2 old cats and a bunch of cute tabby kittens & in the dream Ralph was quite happy with the new arrivals. I love cats, but I'm glad this was just a dream!
Left work at 4 on the dot and raced home to pick up Henry. Weather was atrocious so we grabbed raincoats and boots, before heading to Holt. My luck appears to have changed - I found a parking space, in a car park, just 5 minutes walk from the town. The rest of the town was gridlocked with traffic trying to park! We were there by 5.25 and walked through the hustle and bustle of rained on excited children to the high street. There we found lots of people, a few stalls selling food, and some of those tacky illuminated windmills, swords and lightsabers the small kids pester their parents for. We bought sausage and chips and waited for the parade of children with lanterns. An animated local man was keen to tell us how this was the best switch on in Norfolk. I couldn't disagree. The parade was headed up by men dressed as women - pantomime-like and eventually the count down, the lights & fireworks to finish. It was the best school night evening I've had for ages! Henry enjoyed it. He said it was the first time he has seen Christmas lights switched on. As kids we used to be taken up to Oxford Street and see the lights and Selfridges windows. Holt was pretty though & driving back Henry said it had made him feel Christmassy. So all good!
I took the dogs out for a short walk as I already had boots and coat on. Then a bit of tidying up which always seems to take me longer than it should. I get side tracked. Henry cleaned out the fireplace and built a nice fire. But now he's gone upstairs and it's gone out....
I think I'll watch The Apprentice and read the paper now. Then bed at 10.
Isn't it an amazing moon at the moment? Made the evening dog walk more pleasant.
