Two Robins
Well, it really is Black Friday - it's been pouring with rain all day and I've had the electric light on all day too! I've put off a shopping spree in Dundee - who wants to traipse around in the rain! There are a few sparrows around the feed tray, but no robin. Not likely to get a good shot anyway - so it's an indoor blip! If you remember I blipped a ringed Robin a couple of days ago, and also sent it to the RSPB and the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). I got this reply email from the RSPB this morning:
“Thanks for sending the picture. Always in the field it is really difficult to get a clear image of all the ring details via photography, the details on the ring are tiny, so it is unlikely the BTO will be able to find out anything about this birds life history from the picture unfortunately. However if it keeps coming and you can get close enough for a really clear image of the bird ring, the details may become obtainable. Whilst it could indeed be a locally rung bird, many robins do travel some distance in the autumn, some even turn up here from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe!” I decided these two unringed Robins deserved a blip though - I raised them up on the window sill so that part of the garden provided a backdrop. You may be able o see raindrops on the window. The local bird Ringer has ringed 500+ robins and 49 of these this year so far.
