Black Braids For Black Friday

I spent a while looking for a subject for #BlackFlyDay and came across this wasp. Its long antennae look to me like plaits.

My sisters and I used to wear our hair in plaits when we were young. Our mother came from a Plymouth Brethren family and they believe that females should wear their hair long. When I went away to school at eleven I pleaded and was eventually allowed to cut mine. It gradually morphed from a hideous shape with a fringe so long that it curled at the bottom to a very short pixie cut a la Mia Farrow. Our local vicar wasn't impressed, "A woman's hair is her crowning glory" he said.

I've spent an interesting few minutes reading about the political significance of the crown-like plait wound around the head of Ukraine's Yulia Tymoshenko.
