Pods
These are seed pods from my next door neighbor's Texas Mountain Laurel bush. She told me the flowers were beautiful this year (missed 'em). The red seeds inside these are very hard and poisonous.
I had to stay very close to home today. I ended up at the Urgent Care Center yesterday after (foolishly) spending a couple of hours walking around the in sun down south. I figured I was dehydrated and kept drinking water when I got home but couldn't shake other symptoms. So I knew I needed to see someone.
I was diagnosed with dehydration and heat exhaustion. So I am supposed to stay indoors for a while, rest and drink lots of fluids.
I usually keep the a/c at 82 (27.8C) but I pushed it down to 79F. It's cheaper for me on the weekend - I'm on a special energy plan - so I'll do a little something to take care of myself and not put up with so much heat.
It's like this all across the country right now. Two days ago, 1100 heat records were broken. Record rains in the UK and record drought and heat in the US. Climate change, anyone?
