Cross country fun

Oh my. Thankfully my new cross country spikes turned up 2hrs before an utterly gruelling race today (if they hadn't there was no hope of doing this race). They no longer look remotely new however as they are sodden in mud. 8km in 30 minutes in thick mud above the ankles up and down hills in a cold wind. 30 minutes of wanting to vomit the entire way. For some reason 20 lads from the club absolutely revelled in it and though it's not confirmed yet we hoped to have brought home the Fraternity Cup for the first time in years against our rivals. Why do we do it? I still haven't worked that out but what I do know is that these races stand a few of us in good stead to destroy the London Marathon next April. Thick mud saps the energy and makes road running simples.

The bath and kitchen sink bore the brunt of the mud....
