The 'secret' family recipe!
Only secret because it really took some doing to decipher my Mum's writing! I have been baking this delicious cake for years now and sort of making it up as I have got older! Last week my niece phoned me and asked if I could share any old family recipes for a cookbook that she is putting together, so I hunted around and found this!
Orange Kiss Me Cake!... You can see how well used it has been!
For me - this is a very emotive image....
My Mum became ill with Parkinson's disease when I was just 5 years old so I don't really remember her 'real' hand-writing. This must have been written when I was very very young - and I know that Betty Woods was a friend around the time that I was born! I seemed to have been quite comfortable with writing a note to Mum on top of the recipe - presumably I already knew it off by heart - and Jane was my friend in Scotland, where we lived until I was 11!
Mum's dodgy handwriting had great advantages though..... I remember that I always had to write my own letters to school if I was 'off sick' and then Mum would add a little scribble at the bottom (which was different every time) so it was extremely easy to forge! Tee Hee!
.....Then there is an interesting postscript for something with fat ham and sage&onion stuffing! Maybe not quite so yummy!
