The posters in the TIC window show the Lake District weather at it’s best. Today was the opposite with rain, hail and strong winds. There were few people around when I was out. It was just a short walk to the shops late morning for eggs and mushrooms then an early lunch before watching Davis Cup tennis on tv. 

The birds have been in the garden in larger than usual numbers today. In addition to the nuthatch we first saw yesterday there were coal tits, blue tits, great tits, yellowhammers, chaffinches, dunnocks and a goldfinch.
