The first candle

I love Advent. You probably know this, if you've followed my blips for a bit. I love the darkness, the tension, the waiting for the light that is such a feature of our lives here on the western fringes of northern Europe. And today, as every year on Advent Sunday, we lit the first candle in our Advent wreath, and we sang the wonderful "Lo He Comes" to end the Eucharist. We shall sing it again on the last Sunday of Advent, at the Carol service - a last acknowledgement that Christmas begins at midnight on the 24th of December and not the last Saturday in November!
