Deja vu
Welcome to Roseau, Dominica,. It takes me a while to "warm up" today, limping around the ship after my "injury" yesterday. Quite a few passengers have already departed to Ruins, the club on shore visited by so many cruise passengers around this time last year. I posted a photo on Blipfoto, probably around 24th Nov last year. I decide to take it easy today, although there is one thing I do have to do.
When we visited here last year I was walking up the main street and a little girl, probably six or seven and sitting on the front porch of the house, asked me to take her photo. This isn't a wealthy island like some of the other "trendy" destinations. So I took her photo, she seemed happy and disappeared, I carried on into town. I didn't have an address to post the photo, so when I found out we were coming back here I got a print of the photo and decided I'd deliver it. K came with me and soon we found the house, with a couple of women [the girls mother perhaps?] sitting on the steps. K took the photo to them, they smiled - the little girl was downstairs somewhere so we left it with them and carried on into town - K hadn't visited this area last year as we'd been snorkelling on Champagne reef.
Just before we came to the market we came across the guy photographed here. He is keen to travel and get an education abroad. He was with a group of friends hanging out on the footpath, and we had a few minutes chat and a laugh before moving on. This place is less commercialised than most of the other islands we visited; last year we were cautioned about wandering too far on our own. It was fine then and seems equally safe this year. I couldn't go too far, limping, and we headed back to the ship using the noise coming from "Ruins" bar as a beacon. The party was in full swing when we passed by, locals and the police outside enjoying the music and free cabaret, singing and dancing in the streets outside.
