Social Research Training
Today I attended the first of a two day orientation on social research training led by Laura McManus. Laura is the Australian Youth Ambassador for Development working at CWIN as a Child Rights Research Officer. As part of her studies in Human Rights and Democratisation (Asia Pacific) from the University of Sydney Laura completed a course in Human Rights Research Methodology.
The aim of the research training was to fill the gap between practical field experience, research and theoretical knowledge on child protection issues. Even though most of the presentation was in Nepali for the benefit of the staff, I found the training useful. I'm hoping to learn as much as I can about research from Laura before going to Galway.
After training I went to teach my English class at the American Language Centre. I'm taking a conversational class which consists of adults and teenagers. It's been good so far but there is one mature student who likes to ask me many questions about grammar and he always insists on a right or wrong answer.
I then caught a tuk tuk to Patan durbar square to meet Kukka. Patan durbar square is one of the three durbar squares in the Kathmandu protected by UNESCO. The Square is full of these beautiful old buildings. It was a lovely atmosphere as so many people were sitting around with friends as you would find in any other city square in the world.
