The Meditation Garden

This beautiful granite sculpture can be found in the Meditation Garden at my parents' church. It is a lovely example of making an ordinary public space into something special. The Garden is on a treed grassy area in between parking lots that are shared by community churches and local businesses. With neighbouring apartment buildings, it can be seen and enjoyed by many.

The sculptor, Ed Gibney, was a council member of the Knights of Columbus and also sang in the church choir with my parents. A little over two years ago, after a successful career as a sculptor for over 25 years, Gibney left Saskatoon to attend a seminary in Rome. His major artistic works include a permanent outdoor exhibit in Saskatoon's Riverfront Park entitled Soul of the Land, circa 1990.

Joni Mitchell, someone was paying attention when they put up a parking lot - there is a little bit of paradise in this parking lot.
