Freetown hills

This is the view from outside the offices of Plan International where we have been running the workshop for the past two days. Apart from the city centre, Freetown is build into the hills with the general pattern being that the higher you live, the more affluent you are likely to be.

The Open University is working alongside Plan and FAWE (Forum of African Women Educationalists) on a project to support young women who did not complete their formal education to prepare to take the entrance exam for primary teacher training. Whilst on the programme, the women work as learning assistants to gain experience of working in school alongside studying self study materials in maths and English that we have produced at the OU in collaboration with writers from Sierra Leone. The learning assistants are supported in their study by tutors, and this workshop has been to train the tutors for the second cohort of learning assistants who will be starting their study in January. The training seemed to go very well - the tutors were lively, enthusiastic and worked very hard.
