The Freedom Tower
New York was New York. Bright and breezy, slightly disorganised, incredibly interesting and just a bit threatening.
The traffic had been horrendous and the 30 miles to Hoboken took almost 3 hours by car from Mendham. The PATH to the World Trade Centre (the Subway) was surprisingly clean and efficient and before we really knew it we were sipping French Onion Soup and nibbling Pastrami on Rye in O'Hara's Bar on Cedar Street.
We really only had time for the visit to the 9/11 Memorial which was a pity as it left us feeling a bit flat. It was a wonderful memorial and explained the lead up to the events on 9/11and then what actually happened on the day. It talked a bit about what they had done since but didn't give any prospect that I could see that things might get better in future. I was left with a feeling that people were generally unhappy - with what happened on 9/11, with what was done to redevelop Ground Zero afterwards and with what was being done now to reduce the threat from terrorism.
Sadder and wiser, we retraced our steps and avoided most of the Rush Hour Traffic. We stopped in at the Apple Store in Short Hills Mall only to be to told what I already knew - that I really didn't need to upgrade my iPhone, Margie's Sim wouldn't fit my phone and we couldn't afford the top spec 6s Plus anyway, even if it cost 33% less in the US.
Next year maybe? Please?
