When will you pay me

say the bells of Old Bailey?
When I grow rich say the bells of Shoreditch.
Mrs Creweboy [who is not from Crewe] has been researching her family tree and is back to 1750 on her father's side.
Almost all the marriages and christenings were in one of two churches, either St Sepulchre of Newgate or St Leonards of Shoreditch.
Thus it was that when spending a few days in London we went to both churches, which miraculously still exist. The bells of the former, which is accross from the Old Bailey, were tolled when prisoners were executed. St Leonards was open and we explored, helped by the caretaker.
The picture shows the only 'Shoreditch' bell remaining in Britain, which was loudly rung for us several times by the caretaker.
