Tree poetry

Winter's Trees

A tracing in the sky,
Crackling, frozen twigs
Whipped in the gusting wind;
Catching snowflakes as they fly!

Roots buried deep,
Another climate below;
Warmed tree's stretched toes,
Below earth's snow-mantled surface.

Above: swaying twig,
Blown in winter's breezes;
Little Chickadee's bloodless feet
Cling whilst body dreams of spring.

Somnolent trunk holds steady.
Its inner channels frozen and empty.
Waiting to become major sap waterway
When winter's future becomes spring's
reality.
