Top of the day
I had a hankering last week for "the top of the milk" - the good stuff that floats to the top of the glass bottle, just under the silver foil cap.
I don't remember when I last had the top of the milk. Sometime in the last 25 years, we converted to skim (0%) and then to semi-skim (2%). When we had a kid and an excuse for whole milk, he was allergic to it. In the US we do not even have our milk delivered. Most supermarket milk is homogenized, meaning the fat is all stirred in.
In the store last night, I happened to look at a bottle of milk that appeared to have a line towards the top of the milk. Could it be...could it possibly be........
This morning I had the top of the milk on my cereal. To my delight, the creamy layer was solid at the neck of the bottle, and I had to scrape it clear with a knife.... And lick the sweet, sticky goodness off the blade.
Heavenly.
