Manual Door
Got on a train to my hometown, the doors of which open and close manually. Until just a few years ago the trains in my district were all like that, passengers being asked to open and close the doors by hand during winter; now most of the trains have doors always operating with a button, which saves them the trouble of moving the doors by hand, and actually is more effective- when we were expected to close the doors manually, or physically, most of the time they weren't shut firmly until departing. Anyway I happened to use a train without such a modern button for the first time in ages.
I suppose on the conventional type of trains like this there used to be a different sign, clarifying the reason why the doors didn't open and close automatically during winter- severe chill from outside that passengers wouldn't stand while the doors were open. They have gone, or are still in use elsewhere?
