ABC of Troon ..... Q is for Queens Drive
When I was little, my Aunt J and Uncle D lived here, with a multitude of Cousins. (I was a family of four, mum, dad, sister, me, so anything more than 2 kids was a BIG family).
Uncle D was my Dad's Big Brother, and to me, was like an older, sterner version of my dad. Aunt J was beautiful, blonde and always smiling. She also made Clootie Dumpling which I don't think I've had since she died. Uncle D made ginger wine, and I remember my mate and me cycling a "Long way" and calling in for a refreshing glass of ginger wine to resuscitate ourselves.
When they lived here, and we visited on a Sunday, I used to look in awe at the train line across the road. I used to wonder how you slept with trains passing so closely by the house.
Now - there is a whole new road, and a street of houses added between this street and the railway line. How did I ever think it was close? Also - I noted today that there have been passing places installed just round the corner (also Queens Drive), a sign of the growing number of cars per each household compared to when the houses were first built.
Everything changes... but sometimes, it still feels the same.
