Fungi infestation

Every so often, and unexpectedly, my lawn is covered in these tiny fungi. The top is about 3 cM across and they are so small they hardly appear above the mown grass. The delicate little fungi only last a day then they collapse and wither.

I have no idea why they come or how my lawn got seeded with the spores originally.
