El Lobo

This rare Mexican Grey Wolf
Is getting used to his new home
In the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum

Smaller than other wolf breeds,
Grey’s look more like a German Shepherd. and
Surprisingly, there’s not much grey on their fur.

This is an endangered species that was almost wiped out 40 years ago.
Incredibly, in 1973 only five Mexican Grey’s remained in the wild. They were captured and placed into a captive breeding program.

Twenty-five years later, eleven Grey’s were released in Arizona. Four were shot by ranchers and one hit by a car. Not an easy group to re-introduce. Now there’s a whopping 109 out there, howling into the night.
