St Mary's

These are Reculver Towers, a landmark which dominate the coastline from Whitstable to the Isle of Thanet. They were built in the 12th C as part of a religious site believed to date back to the 7th C when the King of Kent gave the land to a priest to found a monastery dedicated to St Mary. This was built on the site of an earlier Roman fort which was built on the coast to protect the Wantsum Channel which separated the Isle of Thanet from the mainland of Kent. Lots of history in these parts.

I ended up here because I wanted to get some fresh air and see the sea. The fresh air was force-fed but the sea wasn't very exciting so you've got a bit of history instead.

And now to eat and do some ironing. Living out on that wild edge!
